Remote Work – Is This The Future?

Remote Work – Is This The Future?

The Idea

The pandemic has forced countless companies into a trial of having large amounts of remote, Work From Home staff. This will be the impetus for a massive, long-lasting shift in work culture. A shift that will bring about countless companies that create and serve remote work needs.

The Numbers

  1. Facebook anticipates 50% of staff WFH in 5-10 years (The Guardian)
  2. Following the pandemic, 30 percent of the entire workforce will work from home at least a couple times a week (Global Workplace Analytics)
  3. 86% of people feel that working remotely reduces stress – one of the main causes of heart disease (FlexJobs)
  4. If employees who held telework-compatible jobs (50% of the workforce) and wanted to work at home (79% of the workforce) did so just half of the time (roughly the national average), the economic benefit would total over $700 billion a year in real estate, electricity, absenteeism, turnover, and productivity (Global Workplace Analytics)

The Opportunity:

  • On Wall Street, software companies will see the immediate benefit of creating the means for remote work to thrive, while their long-term benefit is decreased employee expenses.
  • On Main Street, ancillary businesses that support the remote work economy will include everything from remote worker perks providers to home office equipment.
  • On Side Street, savvy makers will build tools and experiences we didn’t even know we needed for remote work, but turn out to be a hit.

The data and insights in this article were gathered by Trends Exchange. They have created a report which details the emerging remote work trend, potential business models, the major players in this space, as well as the Wall Street incumbents who will benefit from this trend.
