by Jeff Hunt

In the age of remote work, not only is it important to change the way we manage remote employees, but it’s also helpful to assist them with creating the right physical workspace. Once we have the right remote work leadership and workspace environment practices in place, we can support employee success with the right policies and guidelines. Below is a summary of guidelines that can help maximize employee experience and productivity, while also be ergonomically healthy and preventing distractions:

  1. Provide ergonomic equipment: Companies should provide remote workers with ergonomic equipment such as adjustable desks, chairs, and keyboards to help reduce the risk of musculoskeletal injuries.
  2. Encourage regular breaks: Companies should encourage remote workers to take regular breaks throughout the day to stand up, stretch, and move around to prevent prolonged sitting and physical inactivity.
  3. Set up a dedicated workspace: Companies should encourage remote workers to set up a dedicated workspace that is separate from their living space to help them maintain a professional mindset and reduce distractions.
  4. Communication: Companies should establish clear communication channels and protocols to facilitate regular check-ins and collaboration with remote workers, ensure they are involved in the decision-making process, and feel they are part of the team.
  5. Technology and Security: Companies should provide remote workers with the necessary technology and software to complete their work and ensure that their data is secure. also, providing virtual meeting and collaboration platforms such as Zoom, Google Meet, etc. to facilitate team interactions.
  6. Work schedule: Companies should give remote workers the flexibility to create a schedule that works best for them, while still ensuring that they are available during core business hours and they meet their deadlines.
  7. Training and education: Companies should provide remote workers with training and education on how to set up and maintain a productive and ergonomically healthy work environment and also on how to manage their time effectively.

By implementing these strategies, companies can help remote workers maintain a productive and ergonomically healthy work environment while reducing distractions and ensuring that they stay connected to their team.
