The Remote ID requirement for drones is a forgone conclusion. Whether you agree with the regulation, or not; on September 16, 2023 it will be a requirement for all drones unless exempted by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).

Recreational pilots may operate in FAA-recognized identification areas (FRIA's) without remote ID. UAS Remote ID Commercial pilots will need to adhere/conform to the regulation.

Not all drones will be compliant and will need to be outfitted with a broadcast module. A list of drones UAS Compliant Drones can be found on the FAA's website.

I currently have a drone that will meet the requirement and one that will not. I will retrofit the drone because the cost benefit outweighs sidelining the drone, and purchasing a newer model. However, I will wait until September hoping the price of the modules coming down.
