Remote Control
Yesterday I started my next adventure with BPS Technologies . I got off to a rough start, but I gave myself grace for not ever experiencing starting a fully remote position. Although it took a while to get up and running, I got a quick glimpse into my new work life. More on that as I get a little more into the weeds.
While we worked remotely during the pandemic, I started in an office so the new employee experience was different. To anyone who started a new job remotely, I salute you. It's a little discombobulating when you can't walk to someone's office or desk and ask a question.
I'm also on a new quest. Because I know I'll die of boredom if I work in the Zen room all week, I decided to keep my old hybrid schedule and leave home Tuesday through Thursday. The furs will appreciate me having space considering they almost had a new home at Battelle Darby.
But, seriously, the city has a lot of great places to work remotely for free (or the price of a good coffee and snack). I've got my favorite spaces - Kennedy's Kakes, Bada Bean Bada Booze, Cafe Brioso and Mission Southside to name a few - but the city is bigger than my downtown/east exploration. Of course, places with free parking rank high on the list, but, you know, sometimes you gotta shell out a few dollars for primo coworking vibes and coffee.
As I sit at East Market, sipping my Winston's coffee and learning more about the state's pooled collateral services, I'm excited for this new journey and hope we run into each other one day on my coworking quest.
