Remodeling IFC data into a CATIA Parametric model
IFC is a thankful format that helps collaboration between BIM tools. CATIA often uses IFC data as input because it often does detailed work in the engineering stage.
Imported IFC data consists of dead bodies and information. Since it is not parametric, when a design change occurs, two methods of modification are adopted strategically.
1, A method of reflecting modifications in the previous step (for example, working in Revit or ArchiCAD), importing them back to IFC, and then replacing them with the previous IFC data
2, A method of directly adding modifications in CATIA based on the dead body or creating a new body and replacing it
But What I will introduce today is whether we can use IFC data as if it was created from scratch in CATIA.
I made a video so that you can understand the step of content by step.
step 1, The process of collecting only the necessary parts from IFC data and converting them into the desired geometry type.

In this example, it is applied by making a solid body into a volume body and putting it in a specific Geometrical Set of 3DPart to perform the wall work.
step 2, This is a process that automatically creates input for each wall creation with the list created in step 1.
In this example, the x-generative design template was used to create a center line at the bottom of each wall, and the thickness and height values were measured to be used in the next step. The opening part was also extracted and placed separately.
step 3, The process of applying a CATIA Parametric model.
This is the step of applying the template made in the CATIA wall type by utilizing the center line and information created in step 2.
After all, processes have been completed, the walls recreated in CATIA can be parametrically used for easy modification.
Thank you for watching.
