Reminder: Resume Webinar: Beating The Applicant Tracking System - Getting Noticed By Employers, Not Lost is Friday 1/6/23, starting at 11:00am ET/10:00am CT/9:00am MT/8:00am PT.

Both new unemployment claims decreased over the last week slightly amid employment market confusion at the beginning of 2023. But even higher unemployment numbers are the smallest part of December 2022's job market story.?There are much bigger drivers today ...

1) The Great Resignation continues to cause massive competition and job shortages for career/management/ executive positions. Quits remained high, at the same pace as the 90M-110M+ job seekers expected to changed jobs in 2022. But these high number of job seekers compete for 10.5M advertised jobs, or 11 competitors for each job - These are job shortages (while government numbers only compare unemployed workers to available jobs).

For the senior staff, management, and executive jobs you're seeking, increasing levels of job competition make it tougher for you to get interviews, advance and find your next job fast.

2) Additional leading indicators of a recession continue to flash red, warning of hiring slowdowns. Yesterday, former Fed Chairman Alan Greenspan called a 2023 recession "the mostlikely outcome" of current inflation and rate hikes.

3)?Layoffs by large?employers?cut December new jobs 40%.?The September - December new headcounts began to weaken to some of the lowest levels this year (Note: December new headcounts are typically one of the highest months for new headcounts, due to seasonal holiday hiring).?3rd quarter GDP returned to positive but slow, with international trade strong, but domestic trade continuing to show weakness.?Companies are still hiring despite increasing high-profile layoffs and hiring slowdowns, and countless leading indicators forecasting recession.

Continued hiring makes it more confusing for job seekers trying to anticipate job market trends. At the same time, current hiring numbers give candidates a little more time to find a?safer job/company to prepare for a recession, before hiring freezes and layoffs become more commonplace.

This uncertainty makes it more difficult to find a new job for job seekers against high competition levels, but not impossible. The key to overcoming these challenges lie in making the right changes to your resume/interview/job search strategies.

Job seekers need to prepare now, by getting through employer resume screening databases (ATSs) and accelerating your job search to land a new job ASAP. If your current boss doesn't love you, you're at risk. If you're over 40 you're at risk, because you're expensive. If you're currently in a project position, rather than a line position, you're at risk. If you had a below average or average annual review you're at risk (even if you didn't deserve that unfavorable review), no matter how long you've been with your employer.?If you're in HR or recruiting, you'll be at risk. If your company is facing financial challenges, high costs, needs to sell/merge or secure?VC/IPO funding to grow, you'll be at risk in the coming months.

The time to prepare for a safe haven from layoffs and hiring freezes is now, rather than waiting until you get a layoff notice.

And if you're searching for a raise, promotion, remote position, change career/industry/location, expanded responsibilities, better career path, or an improved workplace environment, you'll need to move fast against a large number of competitors, before hiring slows.

(The worker shortages you've heard about are primarily concentrated in these types of jobs: restaurant/bar, low wage hourly, frontline manufacturing production, truck drivers, doctors and nurses. But those aren't the jobs you want, are they?)

For the career/management/executive jobs you are searching for, because currently employed candidates continue to flood the job market, increasing levels of job competition require you to do more to get through Applicant Tracking Systems, get interviews, advance and find your next job fast.

During my next complimentary webinar, I'll show you the best ways to beat the ATS to get noticed not ignored by employers and find a great job fast. These strategies are designed to accelerate your 2023 job search, whether you're currently employed or in career transition, over 40, changing careers/industry/location, searching for remote jobs, have long term gaps or have other challenging job search problems.
