REMINDER: Autonomous Database OCPU billing metric has been retired and replaced by the ECPU billing metric

OVERVIEW:

Oracle Autonomous Database (ADB) introduced the new ECPU billing metric in January 2024. Along with the introduction of the new ECPU metric, Oracle announced the retirement of the legacy OCPU billing metric for Autonomous Data Warehouse and Autonomous Transaction Processing.

This post is a quick reminder that you will no longer be able to provision or clone new Autonomous Data Warehouse and Autonomous Transaction Processing databases on the OCPU billing metric starting March 4th, 2025.

We recommend switching from using the OCPU billing metric to the ECPU billing metric as soon as possible; this will not incur any downtime or service interruption.

ECPUs provide the same great price-performance as OCPUs. Please refer to the ECPU billing metric FAQ for more details about ECPUs and their benefits.

What action do I need to take now?

Starting March 4th, 2025, the?OCPU compute model will not be available?when?provisioning a new or clone database from the OCI User Interface.?Additionally, the?OCI APIs for provisioning a new or clone database?with the OCPU compute model(i.e. computeModel as OCPU)?will return an error.

All new Autonomous Data Warehouse and Autonomous Transaction Processing databases or clones must be created with the ECPU billing metric.

We also encourage customers to update all existing databases to the ECPU billing metric, which is a seamless one-button click or API call,?as described in the documentation here.?While you may continue to run existing OCPU databases and choose not to update them to the ECPU billing metric immediately, Oracle may convert your databases from the OCPU billing metric to the ECPU billing metric in the future.

How will updating my databases to the ECPU billing metric affect my database service availability?

Updating your Autonomous Database Serverless instance to the ECPU billing metric will have?no impact to your database service availability?and incur?no downtime.
