Veterans Day 2109 - Remembering U.S. Coast Guard Station Sabine's Lone Causality of World War II


On, December 10, 1943, 19 year old, Seaman Royal J. Legendre (pictured aiming the deck gun) , drowned while attempting to board a ship from CG 38815. The patrol boat was one-half mile from Sabine Pass. He joined the Coast Guard in 1942 and was married in August of to Mrs. Annie Mae Legendre of Marrero, La., that same year. He died in service to his country.  (Photo from friend Clyde M.
