On Monday, our nation will pause to remember one of the most influential leaders in modern history. Martin Luther King, Jr. has inspired generations with his enduring messages of courage, hope and love. He devoted his life to advancing equality, social justice and opportunity for all people, and he believed that each of us has a role to play in making the world a better place.
These beliefs build hope in us all, they help us understand and reflect the hearts and minds of others. In doing so, we’re also reminded that our work at Hallmark serves a purpose – that in fact, the role we play deepens human connection by helping people express empathy and kindness.
I encourage you to celebrate MLK Day with intention this year. Find small ways to deepen your connection, find empathy and kindness. And if you can, also find ways to be of service to your community, give back, show care and increase your understanding of Dr. King’s life and legacy.
Most of us will never pierce the nation’s consciousness the way Dr. King has, but we can all make a difference when we set our intention on equality and inclusion for all.
I’m going to leave you with one of my favorite quotes by Dr. King. Please feel free to share yours in the comments as well.
“Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that.” – Martin Luther King, Jr.
