Remembering John G. Bomba

Fighting Texas Aggie class of 1954.

John G. Bomba, of Houston, Texas, died in August 2023, surrounded by family.

John attended St. Mary’s University in San Antonio, and then transferred to Texas A&M University, where he graduated with a degree in civil engineering. A true Texas Aggie at heart, he exemplified the core values of Excellence, Integrity, Leadership, Loyalty, Respect, and Selfless Service.

After graduation, John served as an officer in the US Army Signal Corps and was stationed in Arizona.

Following his military service, he began his engineering career in the petroleum exploration and production industry. He married Jane Killingsworth in 1958, and they were married for more than 65 years.

During his long career, John became recognized as a pioneer and expert in the design, installation, and operation of deepwater offshore pipelines used to transport oil and gas. In 1978, John started working with R.J. Brown and Associates. He remained with them through multiple mergers and buyouts, retiring from Genesis Oil and Gas in 2017. John was a mentor to many and an active member of and contributor to engineering industry groups, including:

John was a man of faith and contributed his time and resources to supporting the Catholic church and the Knights of Columbus. ?

John is survived by his wife Jane K. Bomba, his daughters Anne, Marian (John Thomas), Beatrice Bomba (Michael Bloom), and Norma (Carl Ohlenbusch), as well as seven grandchildren, and one great-grandchild. He is greatly missed.
