There has been a profound change since Covid-19. Death has become a daily occurrence. We as a nation have become numb. Numb that is, until it arrives in your life.
Even as we stand at the dawn of a post-pandemic world, managing the grieving process has been fundamentally altered. By that I mean, that in most cases there is:
- No public wake,
- No funeral,
- No immediate ceremony.
Life goes on; and only those impacted, grieve alone.
Death also fundamentally impacts organizations. And, sometimes a person comes into a non-profit and leaves a deep impression...
John Colthar was one of those people.
Kind, generous, and quick to smile; John never hesitated in reaching out to others. John invested his time, talent, and treasure along with selfless dedication along with great stories sprinkled generously throughout.
He first came to Professionals In Transition? ( PIT?) after losing his job at Reynolds. After he “graduated” from PIT? and joined Wachovia/Wells Fargo, John began to volunteer extensively at Professionals In Transition? Support Group, Inc. for well over 20 years. He even asked for an update from his hospital bed the day he died.
This is a picture of John teaching at a PIT? Meeting. He facilitated our weekly meetings with great energy and enthusiasm.
John’s dedicated service, creative thinking, leadership, heartfelt advice & support, combined with his endless hours of commitment enabled thousands of people to find their dream jobs for free.
Robert Louis Stevenson once wrote: “The man is a success who has lived well, laughed often, and loved much; who has gained the respect of intelligent men and the love of children; who has filled his niche and accomplished his task; who leaves the world better than he found it, whether by an improved poppy, a perfect poem, or a rescued soul; who never lacked appreciation of earth's beauty or failed to express it; who looked for the best in others and gave the best he had.”
Thank You John for all that you did for me and Professionals In Transition? Support Group, Inc.
