Remembering Franz Dill - A Mentor and Friend
I was deeply saddened to learn that my mentor and friend, Franz Dill , passed away a few weeks ago. Franz was a beacon of wisdom, kindness, and brilliance in the many lives he touched, including mine.
About 14 years ago, Franz and I met while I was developing LifeScribe , a platform aimed at preserving and sharing meaningful stories. With his rich background from decades at 宝洁 , Franz offered invaluable insights into knowledge capture and management and significantly shaped the project's direction. Our collaboration on LifeScribe was just the beginning of a relationship that would span years, filled with deep discussions on technology's impact on innovation and the world.
During my tenure at IBM, Franz was an indispensable sounding board. He generously shared his time and expertise, helping me navigate the complexities of the corporate machine and refine my ideas and methodologies. More recently, we embarked on pioneering work together on quantum safe internet projects Secured Quantum Services , a testament to his never-ending pursuit of innovation.

Franz's kindness, generosity, and brilliance were unparalleled. I will dearly miss our hours-long phone calls, his thought-provoking emails and texts, and the simple joy of sharing a meal at Panera, where we would exchange updates on our families, projects, and the latest in tech and innovation. I will also miss updates from his blog, the Eponymous-Pickle.
To all who knew Franz, I encourage you to share your memories and stories of him in the comments below. In celebrating Franz's life, let us remember the profound impact he had on us all, both professionally and personally. His legacy of innovation, kindness, and mentorship will undoubtedly continue to inspire and guide us.
Rest well, my friend. Your wisdom and friendship have left an indelible mark on my life, and you will be profoundly missed.

1 年Franz, Missing you today friend. Makes me sad to think you're no longer here. I just saw this slick automation technology that connects sensors in soil, water, and air with computer vision that tracks plant growth and quality to deliver superior yields. I'm sure we would have geeked out on that for hours.

1 年Nice - Franz was on our early advisory board at KYield in the 2000s. We never met at the Santa Fe Institute -- missed each other by just a couple of years, but we were both members of the business network. We shared many similar interests in science, technology, and business. I too was saddened to learn about his passing. Thanks for posting.
