Remembering Dr. JOSE CANIVE

Thank you to all who joined us to celebrate the life and legacy of?our friend and colleague Jose Miguel Ca?ive. José was born in La Habana Cuba on July 26, 1941.?He obtained his medical degree from the Universidad Complutense in Madrid Spain in 1966.?José then?completed his psychiatric residency at?McGill University in?Montreal, Canada in 1972. After working in British Columbia, he settled?in Albuquerque New Mexico in 1978. ?JOSE will be remembered as an extremely creative clinician, scientist, able to blend the psychiatry questions he so passionately pursued with his broad background in medicine, neuroscience principles and neuroimaging. His contributions to the fields of auditory processing in schizoprehnia with Magnetoencephalography -MEG are unquestioned, and are reflected in his outstanding international reputation and many awards and honors. To us, his colleagues at the American Society of Hispanic Psychiatry (ASHP), Jose was much more than an outstanding psychiatrist and researcher.?He will be remembered as a warm and caring friend and for serving the ASHP with great distinction in many capacities, including as president?1998-2000. Please convey our condolences to?Polly, Claudio, Paco, Nick our colleagues at the University of?New Mexico Department of Psychiatry and the Albuquerque VA Hospital and all Jose’s family and friends. #ASHP #psychiatry #APA #HispanicPsychiatry #warmi

So sad to learn our planet lost a gentle and bright scientist who always was generous in every way. Few can do science seriously and have a ready smile for anybody who crosses their path . Heartfelt condolences to Polly, other family, and his many close friends. Jose Miguel is a big loss for those he used his diverse skills help. I celebrate this remarkable person whom I had the privilege to know.
