Tell Congress your concerns with additional IRS reporting requirements

The House is considering a proposal that would require credit unions and other financial institutions to report inflows and outflows on all accounts over $600. We strongly believe that this proposal, which is meant to offset the cost of critical infrastructure spending, would create major problems for consumers, their credit unions, and the federal government.?

For consumers, this represents an unprecedented invasion of privacy. For financial institutions, it’s an enormous reporting requirement that could jeopardize service to underserved communities. And for the federal government, which operates on severely outdated and often-compromised software, this represents a grave security risk for people’s personal data.?

Awareness efforts continue to increase consumer consideration

We saw a nearly 10-point increase in ad recall for credit unions nationally, and consumer consideration for credit unions as lenders increased eight percentage points since 2019. Thank you to the Leagues, credit unions, and other partners who support this initiative. A special shout out to CU Awareness Executive Director Chris Lorence, who spoke with NerdWallet about credit unions as alternatives to big banks.
