Remember.. your today will reflect in your tomorrow.

Recently you may have read in the news that a particular educational board had announced that for class 12 students their marks would be based on their performances of the last 3 years i.e 10th, 11th and 12th. This was because they could not conduct exams in the midst of the pandemic.

When I read this, I remembered the time when I was of that age and I recall that I had not really paid much attention to my 11th standard exams. I was just happy to be in college and that year was just soaking in the experience. So if this calculation was to be used for me, I know my 11th standard marks would bring down the average for sure.

We live in very different times now than when I was of that age; along with many other changes the calculation of marks too has changed; and I would not envy being in the position of either the decision makers or the students. I do feel for the students though. They could not have known this was coming up.

And on a tangent, what I did start to think was that how many times we have allowed ourselves some slack and it has come back to bite us in the future? This could be in terms of our careers, our finances, our health or even our relationships. That one off year which we did not give our best and it came back to hamper our progress towards our goals. I could recall a few times for myself.

So consistency and momentum are important. Now more than ever before!! And if for some reason we slack off it may actually come back to haunt us in the near future.

And as we are in the second year of a pandemic let us ask ourselves what are we neglecting today. Is it our health, our finances, our relationships or our careers? Where exactly do we think we are slacking off?

We may not get a chance to say, Oh but I didn’t know this would happen!

Thank you for writing about this. Some parents have said to me that this is unfair, no one knew this was coming, the students' average will drop. I have replied that studies is something that should always be taken seriously. I have this outlook because my parents always said the same to me, "Studies are such that you may not recognize the benefits in the short-term. It will always benefit you in the long-term, but you might not know when and how. So do your best for studies. Doing your best will become a habit. Then there is nothing to regret"
