Remember who you are

"Post Election Depression" (PED) is an informal term used to describe feelings of sadness, anxiety, and disillusionment that can occur after an election, particularly if the outcome is not what one hoped for. It can affect individuals who are deeply invested in the political process, leading to a sense of disappointment and loss following the election results. While it is not a clinically recognized condition, PED reflects the emotional impact that political events can have on individuals and communities.
Don't let others define your values. It's highly contagious. Remember who you are and continue to focus on your core beliefs even more clearly than before. Most importantly, LIVE THEM, and you will find that absolutely no one and nothing can stop you, except your own imagined hopelessness.
Relax and retreat for a while, even just emotionally. Take some time off and return to who you really are, regardless of whether the sun rises tomorrow. Which of course it will, as it always has, over everyone, just or unjust. Winning an election is one feat, but getting things done for the good of all is quite another.
Let's continue to wholeheartedly identify with public life and get involved wherever we can. After all, it's our life. At the moment, we only have this one, and it's up to us to decide how to make the best of it. Don't despair and suffer in silence. Among and in between all the "can'ts" there is so much that WE CAN DO. Always. Share this wherever you can.

2 周Harald Walter Azmann I think when 50% plus have decided something that goes against your values you have to be mindful of how you speak. Because you will know some of those who voted that way and can easily offend and create disharmony between you. Can you carry on and ignore their decision?- I guess I’ll plead the 5th. Please remember all our parents voted to leave Brexit as a protest only to find out it was a reality the next day. I know nurses who voted leave to get more money for the NHS only to find out that was another myth. Wounds will heal but I fear the USA may regret this day. But I had also dreaded what might happen if Trump hadn’t won. You see you are stuck between a rock and a hard place

2 周It is true how global events can impact us positively or negatively on our emotions even if not our physical selves. It was hard not to grieve when the Queen died although I had never met her, likewise it was good to celebrate an Olympic Gold even though I have never competed. We come together in good times and bad, let’s help each other through these weird and wonderful events and support those who find it difficult to help themselves. A poignant post Harald Walter Azmann thank you ??

2 周Dr. Sandi Webster writes: I will never forget this day. A seismic shift has happened – similar to an earthquake – only the Earth looks like it did yesterday, but we know in our hearts that it's changed. This is how I feel. Today is my 63rd year on Earth. Happy birthday to me! I hope I have done things that have left an imprint on the world and will continue to do so. Today our country chooses violence and hatred over sanity. Today, we sent a message to boys and girls that men are better than women regardless of our knowledge, education, or common sense. Today, I woke up in darkness because the lights went out in my neighborhood – symbolic of the darkness that I feel has descended on the US. Today, I look at the 1-year-old girl who is our fourth generation and wonder what she will be like in the future; what freedoms will she have? We will not see these changes immediately but will feel them. My scripture for today that popped up on my phone is Psalm 37:7:?"Be still in the presence of the Lord, and wait patiently for him to act". So, I will be still. I will listen...and I will wait! Because there's nothing else I can do right now.

2 周Our power went off this morning for fear of fire. The risk is real with high winds in the area so we are doing what we can to mitigate any damage before it happens. I too am grateful to take a break from the news and enjoy the sunrise as I focus on my family, friends and community ??

2 周Natalia Rachel writes: My heart goes out to all reeling from today's events. In particular, the women who question their sense of agency, power and freedom. In particular, those who are feeling the echoes of past traumas, and perhaps their mamas and grannies traumas rip through them. Healing is top priority now. https://lnkd.in/dxD3PCyW
