REMEMBER WHERE WE COME FROM

REMEMBER WHERE WE COME FROM

One thing I've noticed time and time again throughout different relationships is how people forget what position they were in before their upgrade. One thing that has helped me is maintaining a perspective and connection to when I was at my lowest in 2004.

At 32 years of age, I found myself homeless, jobless, and without family. I remember taking a job as an intern in a post-production house where my ask with the gentleman who brought me on board was simple: lunch and transportation every day, and I would be there.

I did this for a few months, and from there forward I began to forge a new path. I landed an opportunity with an AV rental company, and months later, I received a call for an interview from a person I had met one day while I was interning.

This gentleman introduced me to the commercial audio-visual industry. He mentored me, coached me, and taught me everything I needed to know technically in this space.

To this day, no matter how high I climbed, I never forget that at my lowest, there was a time I was stretching $20 a week (in NYC) and rationing my time couch-surfing in 3 different apartments.

Today, no matter all of the great things I'm doing, and how I'm helping others earn income, I never lose sight of my lowest point. Staying mindful that no matter how high one can go, one can go just as low.

I do my best not to underestimate anyone that I meet, I do my best to treat everyone with respect and kindness as one never knows how life takes turns and where one could find oneself. We never know, the people we see on our way up may be the ones who lend us a hand on our way down.

It's good to remember where we came from, remember where we want to go, and be bold, kind, audacious, and humble - all at the same time.
