Remember When Training Meant Ring Binders? Lots Of Ring Binders

Technology has driven a transformation in businesses and public sector organisations over the past decade, and the impact on learning and development in particular has been immense. The shift from on-premise technology to cloud-based software as a service (SaaS) solutions has had a profound effect on how organizations approach training and personal development.

Gone are the days of clunky, on-premise systems that required expensive hardware and software licenses. Gone too are the shelves of ring binders that typified how training content was put in the hands of employees as they were onboarded or certified for specific roles. Today, organizations can access a wealth of cloud-based training solutions accessible from anywhere, at any time, often with no need for printed material at all. This has made it easier for organizations to provide employees with the training they need to be successful in their roles, regardless of their location or schedule.

Compliance training is one area where the move to cloud-based SaaS solutions has had a significant impact. With the rise of remote work, it's more important than ever for organizations to ensure that their employees are compliant with company policies and industry regulations. Cloud-based training solutions provide a convenient and cost-effective way for organizations to train their employees, with real-time reporting and tracking to ensure that everyone is up-to-date with the latest requirements.

Onboarding new employees is another area where cloud-based SaaS solutions have made a big difference. Traditionally, onboarding was a time-consuming and resource-intensive process that often involved a lot of paperwork. Today, organizations can use cloud-based solutions to streamline the onboarding process, providing new employees with all the information they need to get up to speed quickly and easily.

Personal development is another area that has been transformed by the move to cloud-based SaaS solutions. With access to a wide range of online training resources and certifications, employees can now take control of their own professional development, learning new skills and advancing their careers on their own terms.

Finally, cross-skills training and certifications are becoming increasingly important as organizations look for ways to stay competitive in a rapidly changing world. With cloud-based training solutions, employees can quickly and easily learn new skills and earn certifications that will help them stay ahead of the curve.

A Learning Management Solution (LMS) provides the backbone for bringing learners in contact with all the internal and external resources they need for effecting learning and development. A good LMS working as part of a communications platform like Microsoft Teams ensures employees can learn in the flow of work and collaborate in the development activities.

In conclusion, the move to cloud-based SaaS solutions has had a profound effect on the way organizations approach learning and development. With access to a wealth of online training resources, employees can now take control of their own professional development, learning new skills and advancing their careers on their own terms. In addition, in an economic environment with record-low unemployment, the ability to show employees they have a learning pathway has a significant impact on their likelihood to stay and progress in their careers. The last ten years have seen some dramatic changes in the way L&D operates and performs. Not least for the reduction in paper used and rainforests saved. The next five years will likely be even more transformational and environmentally friendly.
