Remember when survey calculations used to be simple?

Remember when calculators and surveying software was simple and easy to use? They did one thing, input data and then give you a direct simple answer. No bells and whistles, just straight forward solutions.
No clicking through a bunch of setup procedures or settings as with today's software. It is so easy to get lost in the multiple drop down menu's. Click here then click there to eventually get to where you need to be to change some setting or apply a data entry. To find the setting location that you want to change is a project in of itself.
Using today's software is almost equivalent to playing a videogame where you have to conquer multiple levels in order to get the secret key to open some door to get to the next level which can be time consuming and exhaustive.
Don't get me wrong, I really love technology with all of its bells and whistles. It's just that sometimes I just want a quick easy solution to a problem without having to setup a project and click a bunch of menus to get an answer.
For example: Given coordinates for a starting point then calculate the ending coordinates for a bearing and distance. In today's software you would need to create a project file in the software, define the starting coordinate pair in a point file, reference the point file to the project, create a separate data entry in which to add the starting point reference, then add the bearing a distance, then finally click a button to solve for the next coordinate pair.
Wow, a gazillion mouse clicks later just to get a simple answer.
In the old days when I started out, you would create a Latitude and Departure by converting the Bearing to decimal degree then take the Sin & Cos times the distance with a calculator then add those to the Northing and Easting coordinates for the starting point to get the coordinates for the end point. A somewhat simple solution. On occasion, I still do it this way just for fun.
I don't miss the old days but I do miss the simplicity.
It would be much simpler to just enter the Northing, Easting, Bearing and Distance as one data entry and click calculate. No project needed, no point file needed, no traverse file needed, no embeded menu structure, no bearing conversion needed, just a simple data entry with a direct simple solution.
SIMPLICITY
The goal behind the books and apps that we have developed is "Simplicity". Using today's technology such as smart devices and computers with the user experience of simplicity.
Why make things difficult if you don't have to. Use the modern tools such as simulated Artificial Intelligence and make the data entry simple.
How cool is that?

Mainly use AUTOCAD and conversion calculator with our projects that have plans that have structural plans in millimeters, architectural plans in feet & inches and civil plans in hundredths of a foot on the same project.
