I was honored to be invited to a Naval ship christening on Saturday in San Diego. The Navy christened a new Expeditionary Sea Base (ESB 4) - under the namesake Hershel "Woody" Williams (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hershel_W._Williams). Woody Williams himself was in attendance along with his 2 daughters and the son of the Captain who wrote his commendation to receive the Medal of Honor for his actions on 23 Feb, 1945. Along with Williams, there were 4 other Medal of Honor recipients and 3 of the surviving crew of the USS Arizona in attendance. The ceremony was one of remembrance, patriotism, honor, and respect.. not only for Williams, but for those who fought along side him and made the ultimate sacrifice, and for those who serve to protect our Country by putting themselves in harms way everyday. No one knelt while the Anthem played.. but people teared up, beaming with pride as a true American hero and Patriot was honored.. God Bless America!!! I urge each of you to read about Woody Williams and take to heart what effect his actions, over 70 years ago, mean to us today. https://navaltoday.com/2017/10/23/us-navy-christens-usns-hershel-woody-williams-esb-4/
