Remember the Ripple...

1.???? This Week's Encouragement

Yesterday, I facilitated a workshop at the SHRM Northern California Annual Conference in San Francisco, and let me tell you—it was a blast! I had the chance to share from one of our newer mindset trainings, “Think Like a Champ.” The energy in the room was electric. The audience was fully engaged, and I could tell I was making a real impact—it was one of those sessions where everything just clicked. ?I can’t say enough about the amazing NorCal SHRM staff, volunteers, attendees, my fellow speakers, and the charm of San Francisco itself.

What really struck me throughout the event was the recurring theme of the ripple effect. My session was early Monday, so I arrived a day early and decided to spend extra time soaking in the conference—something I don’t always get to do. I connected with incredible people, shared meals, and had conversations that left me deeply grateful. It reminded me how every small action or interaction can ripple out and impact others in ways we don’t even realize.

The theme started when I attended another speaker's session whose energy was infectious. I instantly clicked with the woman sitting next to me. Turns out, she’s an award-winning entrepreneur and speaker, and she generously shared some words of encouragement with me. As we wrapped up our conversation, she handed me a small rock inscribed with the word “magic.” I’ve carried it with me ever since. It means so much to me.

Later, just before my session, a friend sent me a text that stopped me in my tracks: Remember, what you’re doing is huge. You’re about to impact decision-makers and leaders who influence entire teams—and those teams are made up of people whose lives will be touched by your work. Knock ’em dead!” That really hit me—our impact is so much bigger than we realize.

After my talk, I walked with some new friends from lunch, and one of them said, “We can’t wait to take what we learned back to our teams.” And there it was again—the ripple effect.

You don’t need to speak to hundreds to make an impact. A kind word, a text, or a small gesture can create a ripple effect. My challenge for you this week: Be intentional. Look for small opportunities to make a positive impact and watch how it spreads.

Share the magic.

3. Action Exercise: Text a ripple

1. Choose two people from your personal or professional network who could use a little boost.

2. Craft a short, thoughtful text that’s 100% personal—let them know why you’re proud of them. Skip the memes; this is about genuine connection.

3. Schedule the texts to send two days from now, at a time they won’t expect.

Pay attention to their reactions—small gestures often have the biggest impact. Report back and share what ripple effect you notice!
