Nike partners with Fortnite to bring players ‘Airphoria’ ?
Nike has created a custom island within Epic Games’ wildly popular game Fortnite, that players can visit to pick up limited edition, exclusive footwear for their character.
Building on a multi-year partnership with Nike, Fortnite has announced the new game feature ‘Airphoria’, a visually stunning Fortnite island created by Fortnite studio Beyond Creative and Nike.?
The island takes players and their friends into a new, immersive Air Max-themed universe within Fortnite. It’s one of the first experiences of its kind, featuring an industry leading brand such as Nike hosting a universe of its own within a game. Nike has brought their vision of a virtual universe to life, allowing diehard fans to engage with the cult famous Air Max sneakers in an entirely new way.
The question begs - is this the start of something bigger? As the idea of the metaverse grows exponentially in various directions, one has to wonder if this is the way of the future. Will it one day be more coveted to own a pair of limited edition Air Max’s in gameplay, rather than physical life? Will there be value attributed to such valuable, digital sneakers - similar to NFTs??
