Billy Ocean is one of the most influential UK stars in the realm of popular R&B and reggae-inspired soul music; in a career that spans more than 50 years, he has been especially acclaimed for a string of big 1980s hits.
His first global success Caribbean Queen (No More Love on the Run) peaked at number one in both American and British charts in 1984, granting him international status, while his other huge hit When the Going Gets Tough, the Tough Get Going entered the top 10 in 20 countries?in 1985, was the theme song for film The Jewel of the Nile film starring Michael Douglas and Kathleen Turner and was successfully covered by Irish pop band Boyzone in 1999.
A Grammy Award and Ivor Novello Award winner, Billy Ocean has had over 30 million records sold worldwide and also took part in the legendary 1985 Live Aid concert to raise funds for famine relief in Ethiopia which hosted the likes of David Bowie, Paul Young, Dire Straits?and Spandau Ballet and had famously been the scene of one of the most magnificent performances of all time by Freddie Mercury and Queen.
