We're all zooming so fast and so far into our individual and collective future, we have to take time to remember the past, what came before us, what is the same as it ever was, and what will continue to be the same as it always has been. There are conferences and meets and talks about how industries will change, how our lives will change. But we can't have a future if we forget our past; the mistakes, the successes, the failures. They all teach us so much.
I was at one of these conferences this week, InsurTech NY 's annual big event. It is a must attend event and I'm glad I went. Everyone there was so invested in making the future happen the right way. They want to grow the industry, help the end users, make sure all contract stakeholders have a good experience. Technology is the key here, as it is in every industry. And that's where data and understanding as much as possible is important. It unlocks insights no human could ever see - but humans are pretty damn insightful and have collected plenty of data as well -

With every iteration and use, technology gets better, clearly. But it's important to go back and understand who came before us, how they put that tech to use - this is one of the most under the radar stories in the history of finance (largely because this firm wanted and made sure to keep it that way), the story of Jim Simons and Renaissance Technologies LLC unbelievable success.
You know what happens when you forget your history, so secure that bag.
