The Remedy | TikTok Search Is Growing

TikTok comes for Google as it quietly rolls out image search capabilities in TikTok Shop - Aisha Malik at TechCrunch | Image via TikTok

?? CM Rx: TikTok's taking a direct swing at Google Lens and officially testing?the ability for users to take or upload a photo to find similar products in TikTok Shop. The feature is currently available to all users in the United States and Southeast Asia. Users with access?will see it in the form of a camera icon in the search bar in TikTok Shop.

Users have always had the ability to search for specific items on TikTok shop, but now they won't have to rely on their?textual descriptions. I actually have this feature, so I tested it out by scanning my Owala 32oz water bottle. It took less than 5 seconds for TikTok Shop to find similar products – it was honestly very cool.

TikTok has been deemed a search engine and with this new feature, their hope is to get users searching for products in-app to also buy them in-app.?

?? Spotlight: The Empire State Building

I'm Team Black, in case you were wondering. ??

The Empire State Building has been known for doing different brand collabs like their Mercedes F1 and WhatsApp takeover back in April. But their most recent collab for House of the Dragon Season 2 has by far been my favorite. They declared their alliance with Team Green (the?Hightower family) by raising their banners and even putting a blow-up Vhagar the Dragon on top of the building.

Sure, this is part of a larger PR/Marketing campaign for the new season, but I'm here to talk about how much I enjoyed the content their social team cooked up for this moment. They could've easily just posted the PR videos and called it a day, but their team took the opportunity to utilize UGC, use trending audios, create content with the cast, and of course start beef with other buildings (Big Ben).

It's activations like these that bring me so much joy. Just folks having fun and doing what they love, from 102 stories high. ??
