Remarks on Covid - Council Meeting March 30th, 2021, Wayne, Michigan
At Tuesdays Emergency Meeting I voted for the City Council to continue with virtual meetings because I feel that COVID-19, and now it's variants, continues to be dangerous.
I don’t want my family, friends, neighbors nor any citizen of Wayne, or those coming to work here, to believe that this Covid-19 emergency is over and everything is safe. I like to read and recently I’ve been reading a lot of remarks and warnings from Federal health professionals.
Recently I read news headlines that included “Young, unvaccinated adults fuel COVID-19 hospitalization surge in Michigan“ and “Michigan Is In The Middle Of Another COVID-19 Surge“.
That's a concern for me. Wayne is very much a residential community with a busy retail core and growing commercial interests. We are fortunate to have a hospital close by but in the face of this epidemic even something like that is not to be taken for granted. Our doctors, nurses and medical technicians have been struggling during this battles and many have been hurt and many have died protecting us.
We can get through this. We must all work together and maintain our basic safety behaviors. These include wearing masks, washing hands thoroughly and often. Maintain social distancing. Clean and disinfect surfaces.
I am concerned and watchful now because of the news reports we are seeing from across the nation but most of all from those I am seeing in Michigan where another surge of COVID-19 infection and all that means is occurring. It's tough out there but if we do what have been doing and can do there is no reason why it has to be tough here.
We can still maintain and build personal relationships through technology and other means. For example, there are cell phones now equipped with video calling technology. The first time I saw that I was 11 years any my Aunt Jessie too me to the World of Tomorrow in Disney World. Now that technology is here. There are also computer programs you can use to see and talk with others. People still like to get letters – so why not write one? Talk on the phone!
Stay happy and stay healthy!
