Remarkable Women Series: Lavania Nagarajan - A Survivor's Journey

Embracing Hope and Courage Through Adversity

Lavania Nagarajan's story is one of resilience, strength, and the unyielding spirit of survival. A cancer survivor and self-taught photographer, Lavania's journey is a testament to the power of faith, courage, and determination.

At the age of 16, Lavania faced a major surgery that left her with a colostomy bag. Little did she know that her battle with cancer would begin at the age of 21. Despite the challenges and uncertainties, Lavania refused to succumb to despair. Instead, she chose to fight, to seize each day with unwavering determination.

"What I learned from all that I have been through in life is that giving up is never an option," Lavania shares. "Being afflicted with cancer at a very young age really did change my perspective in life. Carpe diem is my mantra, and I thank God for being able to be alive today."

As a cancer survivor, Lavania represents the resilience and tenacity of women who have faced life-threatening challenges. She is actively involved with the National Cancer Society Malaysia , where she finds solace and support in the Young Survivors Group.

"Loneliness is definitely something that I tend to struggle with as a cancer survivor," Lavania admits. "But the young survivors group makes me feel less alone. I am encouraged by the many young survivors that I get to befriend in the group, and I am also able to encourage them with my story of surviving cancer."

In addition to her advocacy work, Lavania has found solace and passion in photography. Through her lens, she captures moments of beauty and resilience, sharing her journey with the world.

Personal Reflections: A brothers Perspective

As Lavania's brother, I have witnessed her remarkable journey firsthand. We grew up in the same Hindu household, facing our own unique challenges and adversities. When Lavania was diagnosed with thyroid cancer at the age of 21, it was a devastating blow for our family.

As her caretaker during that difficult time, I struggled to balance my own aspirations with the demands of caring for my sister. I eventually made the difficult decision to leave my prestigious role in a big four firm to prioritize my family.

Despite our differences and the challenges we faced, I prayed fervently for Lavania's healing and recovery. As a believer in Christ, I leaned on my faith during those dark days, fasting and praying for her restoration.

While our relationship has had its ups and downs, I am proud of the woman Lavania has become. Her journey through cancer has transformed her, instilling in her a newfound sense of strength and resilience.

Call to Action: Pray for Lavania's Salvation

As her sister and fellow survivor, I continue to pray for Lavania's salvation. My hope is that she will come to know Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior, finding peace and redemption in His love.
