More than half of the Punjab land is amidst rural areas with 12,581 villages. The topmost employment sector is Agriculture, where the tradition is males for jobs and females for household chores. However, these archaic and orthodox views have been changing. The real example of this inspirational change is Harjinder Kaur, who has recently joined Punjab Police. Applaudable!
Here is the journey of a middle-class girl who emerged like a phoenix from the rural area of Punjab. Harjinder Kaur lived her memorable childhood in the village of Bathinda district. Her family has an agricultural background. She fulfilled her academics up to senior secondary from Bathinda. After 12th, she moved to Eternal University, Baru Sahib, Himachal Pradesh, for higher studies.
This wise decision came to be a turning point. How? Because of that environment of a spiritual place, teachings and motivation of professional staff, and getting benefits from the Women Educational and Empowerment Initiative of #BabaIqbalSinghJi.
Padma Shri awardee, Social Worker, and Philanthropist Baba Iqbal Singh Ji has a commendable contribution to Women's Empowerment not just by FREE Education to deprived rural girls however providing the best employment opportunities & ultimately employing them as teachers/administrative staff in Akal Academies across 5 States.
Harjinder Kaur spent six years in Baru Sahib and did her B.Sc (Non-Medical) and B.Ed.
Everything doesn't go smooth as ebb and flow are part of life. Her foot was fractured while studying at Baru Sahib, staying far away from her family. In her hard times, her best friend Gurpreet Kaur aided her & made her capable of walking steps and passing trials in the future. She realized herself lucky and overwhelmed because of the support of her great teachers - Mrs Raina Bhatia (Baru Sahib), Sr. Jagmohan Singh (Baru Sahib), and Sr. Darshan Singh (Krarwala). After completing her higher studies at Eternal University( Baru Sahib), she returned home. Later on, she got married to Satnam Singh in the Muktsar district.??
She didn't stop ever after her marriage. She took a job as a teacher in a private school. Her job did not hinder her from performing household chores & responsibilities towards her in-laws, who were also cooperative & broad-minded. Her father-in-law is also an SGPC Inspector & husband was an excellent shooter.?They encouraged and motivated her to appear in Punjab Police Examination. Owing to her determination, intelligence, and knowledge, she qualified for the examination. Presently, she is a competent police inspector, obedient daughter, loving wife, humble daughter-in-law & caring mother.?
A woman is accomplishing her copious roles. It would not have been possible unless her family had supported her. Though gender bias is at its peak, we salute the courage of Harjinder Kaur and her entire family.
