I know we’re all fully aware of this worrying situation we are finding ourselves in at the moment as we are constantly reading about it on social media and hearing about it on the news broadcasts. It is therefore really hard to ‘carry on as normal’ and retain a positive mindset.
The worse thing is not knowing how long the restricted measures and unease are going to last. If we had an end date, at least it’s something positive to focus on. We have to instead try to focus on the present and make the best of where we are right now.
I think it would be fair to say that all of us are feeling worried, stressed and at times severely lacking in motivation to do anything but sit and dwell on a bad situation. However, in order to hit the ground running when things do improve, we have to maintain a sense of purpose in our day to day lives. We need to carry on working as best we can. Yes, this is probably very different to some of the tasks you usually do, but in any case do something! Have a structure to your day, put some plans and systems in place, think of ways to maybe change your offering and think outside the box. The people who are remaining positive and carrying on the best they can will ultimately be ready to pounce as soon as restrictions are lifted.
If your motivation levels are really struggling, think of ways to improve them. Just getting out and getting some fresh air can help, read those books you always said you didn’t have time to read, maybe do an online course to refresh your skills, give your prospects/contacts a call for a change rather than the usual email contact and generally keep yourself busy. Working from home for some people is second nature but for others it’s a totally alien concept and it needs structure to make sure you are using your time wisely.
Just remember that we are all in this together. If you’re struggling, you can bet that other businesses and business owners are struggling too – whether that’s financially or mindset wise or both. Reach out to each other and stay in regular contact with friends and colleagues.
It might not seem right now that things will get better, but everything will be alright in the end!
