RE:MAIL - Monthly Round-up

”Nature-based solutions were the original technology.”

Small Island Developing States (SIDS) are the guardians of our oceans, with their coastal waters among the world’s most important biodiversity hotspots.

Although they are responsible for less than 1% of greenhouse gas emissions, these islands’ existence is at risk from rising waters and the increased weather events that are being brought about by our changing climate. How can we stop them from being lost forever?

According to industry leaders, the answer may lie in rewarding SIDS for managing these crucial marine ecosystems, developing new insurance products that help them adapt to climate change, and leveraging their biodiversity to attract sustainable tourism.

In our newly released hero film leading marine scientist Deborah Brosnan. Ph.D. explains the importance of harnessing natural resources, Rebekah Clement from Lloyd's outlines how the insurance industry can encourage disaster resilience, High Commissioner of The Bahamas Paul Andrew Gomez discusses how the country is monetising its marine ecosystems in the form of carbon credits, and Johanna Leonhardt from Soneva highlights the potential of coral propagation.

Each expert brings a different perspective to the table, but all agree that collaboration is key to supporting SIDS and fostering a vibrant blue economy.

Vibrant Blue Economies

With increased exposure to hurricanes, cyclones, flooding, and rising sea levels, SIDS are on the frontier of climate change. Finance has a key role to play in building long-term resilience.

In our hero film, industry leaders unpack the potential of nature-based solutions.

Oceans Hub

As a vast, natural carbon sink, the ocean plays an essential role in regulating our environment – but climate change is damaging its ability to do so.

Visit our hub full of films and reports to discover innovative climate solutions that work with nature to protect and restore the ocean's health.

RE:CAP

Over the last five years, we’ve worked with some of the most innovative people and organisations around the world. Here’s a snapshot of the progress they have been making recently.

Restor is a mapping platform for the global restoration movement that combines ecological data with artificial intelligence.

Recently, they announced Restor Enterprise – a new transparency tool designed to help organisations and governments understand their impact on nature, track projects, and allocate finance at scale.

TerraCycle are on a mission to eliminate the idea of waste by processing products and materials that are harder to recycle.

Earlier this month, the company opened the brand new Dr. Ernel Simpson Research & Development Lab at their New Jersey headquarters, where a dedicated team will undertake cutting-edge research in waste management.

Thank you friends at RE:TV for the mention! ?? We have taken the next big step and announced Restor Enterprise last month. Simply put, it is an ideal tool for governments and businesses to map, measure, and showcase their nature impact. More info here: https://about.restor.eco/product/enterprise
