ReLook: Erase the walls between Business, IT, and Infrastructure

As we come to beginnings of a new year, we are faced with a perplexity of new technologies like Blockchain (maybe not so new, but becoming mainstream), artificial intelligence, edge computing, fog computing etc., when we are still in the process of completing the movement to cloud. All these require substantial process changes or the Way we Work!

But, over the last few decades, enterprise fatigue for changes that were supposed to have been achieved due to Business Process Reengineering, process innovation, to Lean Enterprise, and their focus on

-        Customer centered definition

-        Reorient internal processes based on customer needs

-        Improve process times.

These three points in different flavors have been the core focus for all change initiatives across all organizations. Businesses and IT have heard these points in different wording for so many years that fatigue is creeping in.

Though millions of articles and thousands have been written, many of these models had their fair share of failures. And most of the failure points to a few common

-        Resistance to change by management and team

-        Teams resistance to change their tool of comfort – usually excel

-        Gap between Infrastructure, IT, Businesses and Process

-        Bureaucratic processes

-        “To be state” getting shelved mid-way

-        Budgetary gaps to make the “to be state”

But, with multiple new technologies maturing or being launched, change will remain the core challenge for any organization. For most of the new technologies like Blockchain, AI, Edge Computing etc., to become successful, and companies need to achieve their business goals, Business, IT and Infrastructure need to work in tandem.

The type of cooperation required to make these investments successful may require the close entwinement that the lines between business, IT, and Infrastructure get completely fuzzy
