ReLondon Roundup - November 2024

Welcome to the November '24 edition of 'ReLondon Roundup' - our newsletter bringing you the latest circular economy updates and opportunities from London.

Read on to hear about the 10 innovative businesses we're supporting in our new circular fashion programme; discover opportunities to get involved in Repair Week 2025; check out our newly published research report exploring Londoners' approach to repair; get inspired by our latest circular success story from LoveJunk ; and lastly, learn about the high street businesses we're supporting with Southwark Council to go 'beyond waste'.

Earlier this month, we announced the 10 fashion and textiles businesses we've selected to receive funding from our new ReWear grant programme.

Each of the selected businesses is a London-based circular start-up or early-stage business that is pioneering a repair, resale and/or rental solution for textiles that helps reduce the need for making new clothes.

We're supporting them to grow and expand their operations and amplify their impact, while playing a key role in promoting circularity within London’s fashion ecosystem.

Meet the businesses and learn more.

Repair Week is back from 3-9 March 2025 and there's lots of ways to get involved!

As part of our annual Repair Week run by our London Recycles campaign, we select three heroes that champion repair in their community, and celebrate the amazing impact they're making through their work. This year, we're opening up our Repair Hero nominations and want to hear from our network about who you think should be celebrated. Email [email protected] with your nomination and a brief overview of why they should be chosen. Get in touch with us to find out how else you can get involved in Repair Week.

We're pleased to share another circular partnerships success story, demonstrating the power of private and public sector collaboration in creating positive environmental, economic and social impact.

Introducing LoveJunk an online marketplace for bulky waste, whose partnership with Islington Council has helped divert 350 tonnes of waste from landfill and enabled 200+ items to be reused that would otherwise have been destroyed.

The results are in for the ReCare project survey examining how Londoners approach repair for small household electrical and electronic items.

Working in collaboration with 英国帝国理工学院 , Barnet Council, LEDNet (London Environment Directors' Network), London Office of Technology & Innovation (LOTI) and London Councils' One World Living climate programme, we've synthesised the key research findings into a new executive summary and outlined recommendations for potential programmes and interventions that can help reduce e-waste and improve reuse and repair for electricals and electronics.

We're proud to be partnering with Southwark Council to support forward-thinking high street businesses to implement ideas that tackle the stuff they or their customers buy, make, use and throw away, while also helping their business to grow.?

As part of our 'High streets beyond waste' programme, we've chosen 16 businesses to be awarded grants of approximately £5k each from the Southwark Pioneers Fund to trial practices that reduce waste and increase reuse, repair, rental and recycling.
