ReLondon Roundup - July 2024

Welcome to the July '24 edition of 'ReLondon Roundup' - our newsletter bringing you the latest circular economy updates and opportunities from London.

In this update, we share our latest article which outlines Eat Like a Londoner - our pan-London food campaign that encourages low-waste and low-carbon diets.

We also roundup the discussions from our London Climate Action Week webinar, during which our CEO, Wayne Hubbard, spoke to Green Alliance's Shaun Spiers and IEMA's Sarah Mukherjee about why circularity benefits the economy, not just the planet.

Looking ahead, we are excited to be part of letsrecycle.com The London Conference, taking place Wednesday 10th July. Our head of local authority support, Antony Buchan, will be talking about targeted strategies to improve recycling, and other scheduled talks will address topical issues currently facing London waste and recycling teams.

Lastly, read on to learn more about our exciting opportunity for Southwark-based businesses to receive up to £5,000 to test out a beyond waste initiative that tackles the 'stuff' they and their customers use and dispose of.

Food accounts for over 10% of London's consumption-based greenhouse gas emissions -presenting a real opportunity to make a positive impact through shifting diets and tackling food waste at a city level.

ReLondon's behaviour change and campaigns manager Katie Moriyama explains how our campaign 'Eat like a Londoner' is helping motivate younger Londoners and families with children under 11 to stop wasting food and encouraging more sustainable diets.

Last month for London Climate Action Week , we hosted a webinar discussing why circularity is good for the economy, not just the planet.

Over 120 tuned in to the discussion, hosted by our CEO, Wayne Hubbard FCIWM , with expert speakers Sarah Mukherjee MBE from IEMA and Shaun Spiers from Green Alliance. The conversation raised important issues such as how circular economy is so much more than just waste and recycling, and how it can make economies stronger, create meaningful and accessible local jobs across all skills levels and help tackle cost of living pressures. We also talk about what we believe will accelerate change, and what the benefits are in making the UK’s economy more circular.
