ReLondon Roundup - August 2024
Welcome to the August '24 edition of 'ReLondon Roundup' - our newsletter bringing you the latest circular economy updates and opportunities from London.
In this update, we invite you to join our upcoming webinar How to talk about consumption without talking about consumption, where we'll explore ways in which we can better inform and motivate citizens to adopt more sustainable lifestyles.
On the same topic, our latest article outlines the need to properly fund behaviour change campaigns so that they can stand up to the big advertisers whose ubiquitous marketing is pushing overconsumption on a daily basis - have a read here.
Lastly, we're calling for circular economy changemakers to get involved in #CEweek2024! Now in its seventh year, Circular Economy Week is the leading global circular economy platform to showcase the work you and your organisation are doing to accelerate the transition to a circular economy.
This webinar will explore the trepidation around talking about consumption and the challenges we face in how we ask citizens to consume less or differently.
We'll discuss research about people’s relationship with consumption and sustainability and give examples of communications and campaigns that have done it well (or not so well). We'll also delve into what needs to change to better engage citizens and motivate behaviour change towards more sustainable lifestyles at the pace and scale needed.
The discussion will be chaired by ReLondon's Ali Moore , who will be joined by panellists Dan Bennett of 奥美 , Laura Costello of THINKHOUSE , Oliver Pattenden of Accenture Song and Poppy Mason-Watts of WaterBear Network .

Drawing from our experience of running London-wide behaviour change campaigns, we discuss the numerous barriers associated with the messaging of “stop consuming so much stuff” - not least the concern that we're telling people how to live their lives, but also because we're competing against corporate brands' large marketing budgets that promote overconsumption on a daily basis.
#CEweek2024 is fast approaching but there's still time for circular economy change-makers to get involved and help make this year the biggest and most impactful CE Week yet!
In a year of global democratic elections, Circular Economy Week 2024 will demonstrate how circularity can meet a diverse range of economic, environmental and social policy challenges.
You can get involved and put your organisation on the circular economy map by hosting an event or by signing up as a sponsor or supporter to gain recognition as a leading circular economy advocate and practitioner.
