Key Details:

International Applicants must meet the requirements set out by the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) and the Medical Board of Australia

Two pathways:

Competent authority pathway: usually for non-specialists, but also specialists with qualifications from the UK, Ireland, USA, New Zealand and Canada

Specialist pathway: for specialists seeking specialist recognition or applying for an area-of-need specialist position

We appreciate that the definitions can be tricky and we'll answer any questions you may have, but hopefully, this will help

1. How much will I earn? As a guide, somewhere between A$250,000 and A$500,000 a year (￡130k to ￡250k, Euro 150k to Euro 300,000, US$160k to US$320k)
2. Why the huge range? It all depends on your experience and your location in Australia.
3. If I apply, how long will the process take? For any doctor holding Australian qualification, it could be as little as one week. For others, 3-6 months
4. What help will I get with the processes/paperwork? Our client will hold your hand through the process
5. Do you have to pay anything? Yes. Visa costs are paid directly to the Australian government. Possibly flight costs, but every position is different, with each client offering different benefits.
6. I'm not a GP but a specialist. Is there any demand for my services? Yes, but erratically and it will take more time. We say the door is ajar rather than wide open but please apply.
