RELIGIOUS vs Following Christ
Recently, someone on Instagram posted about my book, Fear Is Not The Boss Of You.
She was super sweet about it but gave her audience a heads up that the book is “very religious. Very, very, religious.”
And my heart kinda sank when I saw those words.
Let me explain why….
There are sooooo many negative connotations and EXPECTATIONS surrounding being labeled as a RELIGIOUS PERSON.
“Religion” is usually full of rules. Religion is often something that is handed down from our parents.? Many people avoid religion as they have been hurt by religious people or the church.
I don’t describe myself as a religious person.
I would rather be known as a Christian, a believer, a CHRIST FOLLOWER. Someone who loves the Lord with all her heart.
That’s totally different from religion.
Last year when I sat down to write "Fear Is Not The Boss Of You", it was super important to me to write in the same way that I lived my life. Which is:
“Welcome to my book. By the way, THIS IS WHO I AM AND THIS IS WHAT I BELIEVE. I LOVE you even if we believe differently. You’re sooooo welcome here, even if we believe differently. But I want to introduce you to the same Jesus that I know cuz' you may want to know Him too."
And I believe I do that in a way that feels non-threatening and would be the exact same as how I would do it if we were to meet in real life.
So for those of you who have been thinking about getting Fear Is Not The Boss Of You but you don’t consider yourself religious—good news: I DON’T CONSIDER MYSELF RELIGIOUS EITHER!
But if you’re someone who can read a book where the author talks about her faith without trying to shove it down your throat, then I invite you to go grab a copy. You’ll probably enjoy it more than you think you would.

4 年Not to worry Jennifer- you've done your part, and now the opinions, the kudos as well as the warnings, are, well..., just not your concern. I say this in love, and as someone who enjoyed the book, and chose to then follow you on LI, and now to respond to this post. Some may read your book because of what was said, and some in spite of it, but the greater plan will not be deterred because of it. Can I get an Amen? ;)
