Reliance Jio's dominance continues
For the third quarter in a row, Reliance Jio has held its position as the global leader in mobile data traffic usage, surpassing its international competitors according to Tefficient's research. A chart shared by Tefficient on X highlights Jio's dominance, with notable growth rates of 24% compared to China Mobile's modest 2% year-over-year increase.

Reliance Jio Infocomm reported a significant boost in its Q2 FY25 financials, with a standalone net profit increase of 23.1% to ?6,231 crore. The company's revenue from operations also saw a substantial growth of 14.5% year-on-year, reaching ?28,338 crore. Additionally, Reliance Jio's ARPU (average revenue per user) rose to ?195.1, driven by the partial implementation of tariff hikes and an improved subscriber mix, marking a notable increase of 7.4% compared to the previous quarter and the same quarter last year.

Jio's subscriber base decreased slightly to 478.8 million in Q2 FY25, down from 489.7 million in Q1 FY25, due to SIM consolidation efforts that are expected to slow down soon. Despite this, Jio has achieved a milestone of 148 million 5G subscribers within two years of its launch, maintaining its position as the largest non-Chinese operator in this space. Additionally, average data consumption per user rose to 31GB/month, driven by an increasing proportion of 5G and home users.

Jio Platforms, the umbrella company for Reliance Industries' telecom and digital ventures, saw its consolidated net profit jump by 23.4% year-over-year in Q2 FY25, reaching Rs 6,539 crore. This growth was driven by an increase in average revenue per user (ARPU) to Rs 195.1 per month due to a tariff hike and improved subscriber mix. Additionally, Jio Platforms' revenue from operations rose by 18% to Rs 31,709 crore in the September quarter.
