THE RELEVANT

THE RELEVANT

First off, this post is not about Leonardo Decaprio's movie The Revenant. It sounds similar but it is entirely different.  I have not yet watched The Revenant but I believe it refers to a story of someone who was left for dead and came back for vengeance.

While vengeance is not something I am encouraging,  I do encourage a focused energy to get things done. Relevance refers to something that relates to the matter at hand or something that is practical/applicable to today or now.

Think of the short life expectancy of any technology item of today.  Up until recently I was using an almost indestructible iPhone 4.  While it was good, it really had outlived its relevance of today.  The slogan for the iPhone 4 was "This changes everything, again".  Since its release 6 years ago, much has changed in the phone world.  The phone is not really relevant to the software demands of today.

Not only does technology change quickly, but so does business.  In order to stay relevant (practical or applicable to today or now) we must continue to learn, grow and adapt.  I would like to go as far as saying you need to even do more. Adapting to the business climate translates to survival.  Staying relevant to the business climate really requires someone to be ahead of the curve.  In order to stay ahead, you really need to be moving faster, thinking ahead, anticipating changes and being the best at what you do.

The business climate today is brutal.  I am not sure it really is any more brutal than years past, but I do know that those that are behind have a hard time catching up.  My advice is to not wait, but to stay focused and be ahead of the curve.  For someone looking for a new career or promotion my advice is to stay focused.  I believe life is what you make of it.  Challenge yourself to do the "impossible", you will find that it is really not as hard as you think.  Your limits are typically set by yourself.  Set your goals high and focus on hitting them!  You can turn relevance into reward.

All the best!
