Relevancy for 2024. The Principle of Security Criminology-Risk dictates that all staff are security investigators.
Practitioners should belong to more than one body in their location and field of interest. There may be bodies that provide vital information for this day and age, for example, there may be certain brands (models) besides technologies that are banned from government sites for good reason. If this is the case, then why is private sector purchasing such (counter reputational damage).
Our responsibility (the narrative) is to find the crime and stop it, protecting sites and saving lives. We use technologies and the workforce to do such.
In this context by using situational awareness, we triangulate 'relevant' resources (sources of knowledge) so that we have an overview of what is happening (vulnerability landscape) in our location and field of interest.
The new norm is now in session because of new protocols and procedures in-line with the fast-developing technologies besides increased crime and criminal methods for many reasons.
Furthermore, all security teams are made up of different cultures and are responsible for many people at any one time that is also made up of different cultures. Leadership and project management (security styled) dictates a new norm for recruiting staff or managing the flow and behaviour of populations.
This means that professionals need to source from relative bodies which could be regionally located besides international bodies because what happens in one part of the world could eventually affect other parts of the world. We do live in a global village!
There are many associations and institutes that specialize in specific crime or fields of interest. Many of such bodies provide great training that is accredited and recognized world-wide.
Also, there are generic organizations that pay attention to current threats of the day regardless of location and meta-research issues that are in theatre that others are unaware of.
It is not only what one knows but also who one gets to know for this moment in time that is just as important. But what do we have to know is being ''relatively minded''. In other words, what do we need today that is relevant for now and for tomorrow.
Besides relevant knowledge, which is related to certificates, then there is access to continuous flow of reliable information and most importantly relevant soft skills to which now in the new norm is critical thinking (security styled) to out-think and outsmart perpetrators.
Security is only as good as the people and the head of security is reliant on receiving all-the-truthful information from the ground which is not only from technologies but most importantly from the workforce.
