The Relentless Pursuit of Leadership That Resonates

The Relentless Pursuit of Leadership That Resonates

In our journeys as leaders, we often hear that we should strive to be role models. We're told that our actions, our decisions, and even our failures serve as lessons for those who follow us. While this is undoubtedly true, it's also important to recognize a complex reality:

You cannot and will not be an example for everybody

Leadership is not a one-size-fits-all concept; it's an ever-evolving dynamic shaped by context, culture, and individual personalities. What resonates deeply with one person may not connect at all with another. This isn't a sign of failure; it's a reflection of the human tapestry that makes up our teams, organizations, and communities.

Instead of aiming to be a universal role model, focus on those who find inspiration in your leadership style, those who connect with your vision, and those who grow through your guidance. These are the people for whom your actions will speak the loudest, and these are the lives you will most likely impact positively.

As someone deeply committed to driving innovation in Technology and empowering women and marginalized communities through 5xminority , I know firsthand that impactful leadership stems from authentic engagement with your core audience. By continuing to advance our missions and values, we do more than merely perform our roles. We act as catalysts for those who look up to us, fueling their aspirations and igniting their passions.

So let's keep pushing forward, not with the aim to inspire everyone, but with the intention to profoundly affect those who see us as a beacon on their paths. And for those we can't reach, let's create an ecosystem that allows other types of leaders to rise so that everyone can find a role model that resonates with them.

While our leadership may not resonate with everyone, it holds the power to inspire those who see themselves in our journeys. This is especially pivotal in sectors like technology, where women remain significantly underrepresented. Earlier this week I spoke to an amazing group of entrepreneurs (emprendedoras) and was reminded of the many challenges Latinas face in the workplace. I was reminded of my humble beginnings and how I wished I had a role model who looked and sounded like me back then.

The lens of diversity isn't just a courtesy; it's a necessity for creating products and solutions that serve our diverse world. So, I urge you to take a moment today to uplift the women in your tech circles. Share their stories, endorse their skills, or better yet, bring them into projects that can benefit from their unique insights. And for those of us in positions of influence, let's make it our mission to mentor and sponsor women in tech, opening doors that have been traditionally harder for them to unlock.

In doing so, we not only work towards a tech industry that looks and sounds more like the people it serves but also create an environment where everyone can find a leader who resonates with them.

Dear Elaine Montilla . This is a great reflection. Since we all have different journeys, and different starting points, what “resonates” with each of us will logically vary. However, your voice and your example as both a woman and a Latina in a highly competitive field fills a void. Looking forward to your next post
