The relentless pursuit of knowledge

The relentless pursuit of knowledge

The relentless pursuit of knowledge is one of the key differentiators between good leaders and great ones. Whilst it is important to be discerning of where you gather information from, all effective Maverick Leaders understand that there is a need to ‘collect the dots’, from as wide and diverse a field as possible. It is this convergence of data that allows them to not only predict the future with unerring accuracy, but to conceive an innovative solution to thrive in it.?

The desire to be knowledgeable, to practice and enable the continuous learning of others, so that meaningful action can be taken, is what drives many Maverick Leaders to operate as entrepreneurs or intrapreneurs – bringing great value to the organisation, regardless of whether it is their own or someone else’s.

Empowering leaders through knowledge sharing

When you understand that knowledge is power, real leaders soon decide that to empower and enable others, they need to give that knowledge away. Knowledge needs to be accessible to those that you wish to empower, which is why I made the decision to regularly dissimilate my knowledge in three forms, audio (podcast ), written (my?book ?and? The Maverick Paradox Magazine ) and visual (my?YouTube ?channel,?Instagram ?and?TikTok ).

Outside of working with clients, other knowledge sharing that I participate in includes public speaking, radio appearances (eg the BBC), HRZone’s Leadership Columnist and provision of expert opinion in national and trade press.

The Maverick Paradox Podcast

The Maverick Paradox Podcast ?is currently a twice weekly show and was born in December 2017 from my desire to have more conversations with experts in their fields, that took a maverick (wilfully independent) approach to their area of specialism. My desire was to empower others with new knowledge, to break down the complexities of leadership into components that were easier to understand and emulate. I wanted to learn new things that would rock my status quo and my belief in ‘what I already know”.?

Over time I realised that not only was I learning a great deal (the podcast is great continuous professional development - CPD), I was also testing my hypothesis that you did not need to be a Maverick by personality, to demonstrate Maverick Leadership, and that Maverick Leadership could be found everywhere.?

My hypothesis has been largely proven over the years, with many experts from diverse fields joining me to have a great conversation and to satisfy the pathologically curious listeners. Currently the podcast has been ranked in the top 3% most popular global podcasts and number 12 Best UK Leadership Podcast to follow (2021,2022).?

The Maverick Paradox has been listened to in over 130 countries with the top 10 countries by downloads being:

The Maverick Paradox: The Secret Power Behind Successful Leaders

My 5 Star rated book was published in 2017 a few months before I started The Maverick Paradox Podcast. My desire was to share what has been called ‘The blueprint to successful leadership” with others, therefore enhancing the leadership capability of the reader. I help you discover:

·???????How successful leaders think

·???????The competencies of successful leaders

·???????The use of power by successful leaders

I also explore the key strategies, capabilities, and utilisation of power by Socialised and Extreme Mavericks, whilst also touching on how to harness the maverick. Robert Walker shares -

“Judith does a great job of identifying the different types of mavericks and the implications for business leadership. The term Maverick made me think of highly assertive abrasive people that I might want to avoid. This work uncovers the nuances of Maverick behaviour and you realise that you are surrounded by socialised Mavericks that you did not identify as such. For non Mavericks, this book may open your mind to the benefit of adopting some Maverick behaviours that could help you meet your own goals and help you understand others in your orbit. Well written and a good read”.

Every leader has at least one book in them!

The Maverick Paradox Magazine

In late 2019 I conceived? The Maverick Paradox Magazine ?as a way for the pathologically curious to read important contributions to the world of business thinking, from a Swagger of Maverick thinkers. For example, we have had contributions from Harris Rosen, founder of Rosen Hotels and Resorts, businessman, investor and philanthropist (who appeared on the podcast?episode 69 , and wrote?two articles ?for the magazine), featured columnists?David Chislett ,?Josuel Rogers ,?Astrid Davies ?and?Peter Docker ?author of ‘Leading from the Jumpseat’, co-author of ‘Find your why’, with Simon Sinek and David Mead.

The magazine was officially launched in January 2020 to a receptive audience. It has been ranked in the top 100 Leadership blogs (2021,2022). We have had over 80 writers and 660 published articles which are primarily business content for both the entrepreneur and the professional. We address themes of creativity, self-development, leadership execution, law and freedom, resilience, Maverick DRIVEN? Leadership, coaching, (and many more), all with a Maverick twist!

We share maverick perspectives on business and the world, that you don’t usually see elsewhere.

My desire is to ‘lay down as many dots that you can find’. I am passionate about enhancing leadership capability with the work I do with clients and sharing Maverick Leadership principles with as wide as possible audience. I do this through my writing, (my book, Leadership column, talks etc), and by exposing y audience to the collective knowledge and perspectives of my podcast guests and magazine writers.

My question for you is how enthusiastically do you take your role as a leader? Are you sharing your knowledge by ‘laying down some dots’ for others to pick up? And are you ‘collecting the dots others leave’ by exposing yourself to new information from diverse sources and integrating that learning into your current way of thinking and doing?

The desire to be knowledgeable, to practice and enable the continuous learning of others, so that meaningful action can be taken, is what drives many Maverick Leaders to operate as entrepreneurs or intrapreneurs – bringing great value to the organisation, regardless of whether it is their own or someone else’s.

I agree totally especially as time evolves. We have to continuously furnish ourselves with info to make decisions in this super competitive and turbulent world. Plus managing people who have info now available at the speed of lights means you have to stay sharp as a leader. You will never know everthing there is to learn but fueling the mind is pivotal.
