What does good look like?

Be relentless about self improvement. Regularly reevaluate how you work to find ways to improve. Don’t be satisfied with the status quo. “Because we’ve always done it that way” is not a reason. Find a better way. Think differently. Challenge. Ask “Why?” Be a lifetime learner, and find ways to do better tomorrow.

You probably expect me to talk about evaluating data—measuring KPIs, click-through rates, Instagram followers, you name it. And to be fair, we do that; but, when I talk about being relentless about improvement, I think about a functioning team. The data doesn’t matter without 9s and 10s in every seat, and I know it’s something we all struggle with as leaders.

So, when I reflect on the nine years I’ve spent building my team in the Digital Sales & Marketing office, I’m most proud of the relationships we’ve fostered. In an environment where change is our only constant, it’s incumbent on all of us at DIG to be comfortable enough to speak up when we need to reevaluate a strategy or campaign that gets in the way of getting better. That sense of improvement is most critical when it comes to developing ourselves.

I feel that my most important role as a leader is to look for patterns in my colleagues. Identifying those subtle “tells” lets me know when it’s time to have a frank discussion about how we can break those patterns that prevent us from truly growing. And even in those difficult cases—when it’s clear that the desire to improve just isn’t there, or that the fit isn’t right—it’s crucial to open up and be real about how we got there.

I’ve seen past colleagues go on to do amazing things after BAYADA. It tells me that they always had the drive to truly be their best—they just needed to find what made them truly passionate to do it.

These experiences have taught me that creating an environment of continuous improvement requires us to be open and honest with each other. Without a sense of mutual trust and transparency, how can we be sure that the members of our team are aligned and dedicated to getting better? Learning to communicate about what’s working and what isn’t is essential to improving our outcomes—and ourselves. In the work we do at BAYADA, whether in service or support, we’re only as good as the people with whom we surround ourselves. When everyone is honest, aligned, and passionate about their work, continuous improvement comes naturally.
