Release Plan 2024 Wave 1 is Out and There is a Lot to Look Forward to...

Happy new year. The holiday passed by quickly, it seems, and we are back at the coalface. Happily, Microsoft has soften the blow by releasing the Dynamics 365 2024 wave 1 release plan and it is full of great stuff to look forward to.

The release planner is out of beta, and the following links take you straight to the relevant sections where you find the planned feature releases:

Finance

Supply Chain Management

Project Operations

Cross-Application

If you would like the traditional version in Docs or PDF, it is still available here.

So, which planned features stand out for me? Here is a list...

Business Performance Analytics and Planning

The Business Performance capabilities are obviously the big theme for the coming release plan in the finance application.

The Business Planning capability became generally available in December 2023 and brings with it FP&A capabilities.

Business Performance Analytics on the other hand is still work-on-progress, but great to see all the new features being added to complete it.

This starting point gives a good overview of what is coming.

Archiving

Last year we had a bit of a false start with archiving and the developers went back to the drawing board. A new and enhanced version is going into public preview in February, so fingers cross it will become generally available in CY 2024.

Planned data areas for archiving currently includes:

  • Ledger transactions
  • Tax transactions

Exchange Rate for Foreign Currency Revaluation

A feature, I have seen asked for quite a few times is this one. We now get the ability to use a configured exchange rate to revalue foreign currency in accounts receivable and accounts payable as described here.

Financial Tag Rules

So far, real-world use of financial tags has been somewhat limited due to the lack of a rule-engine. An AI-driven rule-engine is now coming according to this article.

Demand Planning

The Demand Planning app is coming along nicely in public preview and is expected to become generally available in April 2024.

You can read more about it here.

Procurement Conversational AI

Conversational AI us coming to procurement and sourcing with public preview scheduled for April 2024.

Project Operations

I am not going to call out specific Project Operations features, but if you look at the list of planned features it is very comprehensive and contains a lot of productivity enhancements.

Good to see that this great application area is getting some attention.

As I said in the begging of this newsletter, lots of new features coming along in 2024 so time to plan for introducing them to your customers and organisations.

What a great time to be part of the Dynamics 365 Finance and Operations community...

AI is revolutionizing the ERP industry, as it is every other. This wave 1 release plan is going to be one of the key players in bringing AI/ML closer to the Dynamics market and accelerate its growth more than ever before.
