Release of an AI tool from Meta that can recognise objects in photos

Meta, the parent company of Facebook, has introduced a new AI model called Segment Anything Model (SAM), which can identify objects within images and videos. SAM can recognize objects even when it has not seen them during training and can understand text commands or by clicking on them. Meta claims that SAM is the largest AI model of its kind and has demonstrated its ability to identify multiple cats in an image when the word "cat" was entered. This release highlights the competition among large tech companies to display their artificial intelligence innovations following the success of Microsoft-backed OpenAI's ChatGPT chatbot.
