Relaxing into Resilience

Relaxing into Resilience

“What is life?” asks Crowfoot, an elder from the Blackfoot tribe.

It is the flash of a firefly in the night. It is the breath of a buffalo in winter. It is as the little shadow that runs across the grass and loses itself in the sunset.

Life is fleeting, awe-inspiring, and—it will change.

As we experience life’s constant shifts, finding balance between holding on and letting go is often a challenge.

Whether facing business challenges or our own personal transitions, the impact of change touches us all.

It’s normal to feel unsure during these times, yet these moments also reveal our profound capacity for resilience and care.

During my training in the Mindfulness Meditation Teacher Certification Program, one of our inspiring teachers, Jack Kornfield, shared a story that illustrates the inherent strength and resilience within us all.

The story features a woman, a parent just like many of us, who faced a severe wildfire threatening her community.

She had just dropped off her child at school when she returned to find her neighborhood evacuating due to the advancing fire.

Despite the risks, she chose to stay behind, armed only with a garden hose and a broom. She prepared her home to withstand the fire by dousing it with water.

Remarkably, when the fire reached her property, it skipped over her house without causing harm. Her quick thinking and actions averted a potential disaster. This woman was not a professional firefighter; she was simply a parent who found incredible strength within herself when it mattered most.

While her story is inspiring, I must emphasize that I would never recommend anyone stay behind to douse a fire. Safety must always come first, and professional advice during emergencies should be strictly followed.

This story serves as a powerful reminder that resilience is an inherent trait within each of us, often lying dormant until a crisis awakens it.

It underscores the core principles of mindfulness: rising to meet challenges, taking proactive steps for protection, and confronting fears head-on.

It shows us that we all have remarkable strength within us, often unrecognized until we are faced with tough challenges.

As we each move through life’s inevitable changes, let’s draw inspiration from her courage and remember that we, too, have untapped strengths within us.

These skills are always there, ready to be accessed when needed.

We can relax into the resilience that is naturally part of us, knowing it will emerge when most needed.

Moving through life’s changes, whether in our personal journeys or as entrepreneurs, let’s trust in our hidden strengths.

Life as an entrepreneur is filled with uncertainty, but also brimming with opportunities to grow and tap into our deepest resources.

If you’re ready to apply these principles to your life and work, I’d love to help coach you. Schedule your discovery call today .

Wishing you all the very best always,
