Relax
During our school physical training drills, the word that used to be eagerly awaited, and was music to our ears was ‘stand at ease’. Which sent a clear signal ‘relax’.
While the jig saw pieces of the Covid 19 saga are still at play, it's difficult to predict at which stage of the game we are on. The complex equation is revealing new layers of its impact, and it's taking the mighty vision of the entire world to fight an enemy that can only be viewed under a microscope.
So what have we achieved? Saved ourselves from a severe onslaught. Got better prepared to meet the calamity? Or just delayed the inevitable.
Time, true to its name, believes in timing. It loves intrigue, suspense and drama. It keeps many answers to itself, and will reveal, eventually only at the right time.
Meanwhile relaxation during these times is exactly the opposite of what the word means. Tired of relaxing, people are giving relaxation, a new meaning.
In times of hyper activity, relax means to take a break. Time to unwind. Time to put your feet up. But with forced relaxation, the break from relaxation seems thronging the streets, or making a dash for the denied indulgences.
Age old wisdom has always added a word of caution to relaxation. Don't take a break in time, and you find the stitch beyond a mend. Lower your guard prematurely, and you could rue it for a very long time.
Relaxation has been metaphorically associated with putting your feet up, but these are times when people need to keep their heads when everyone around them are losing theirs.
Don't count your chickens before they have hatched was what we grew up with. It's time to revisit the proverb and not blow away the patience and perseverance.
