Relax. Crypto Will Win

My dad said to me when I was young. “The person with the agenda will always defeat the person without the agenda.”

By agenda, he meant “motivation and passion.”

Now, the defeat of those with no agenda/belief may not be immediate. It may take a long, long time, but eventually those with the motivation will wear down those without it.

Right now, if you look around the cryptoscape, there’s a feeling of depression. So much of the promise that Satoshi laid out seems further away than ever. Celsius, 3AC, Luna, FTX, and who knows what next…they seem to be eroding any confidence that people have that crypto will fulfill its potential.

But look around the world of crypto.

Look at places like?Coin Center?and the?Blockchain Association. Look at people like?Caitlin Long?and?Erik Voorhees. Look at sophisticated investors like?Fred Wilson.

Theses people-and many, many more-?believe?in the potential and have an agenda.

That agenda is one of self-sovereignty, responsible monetary and fiscal policy, data privacy, censorship-resistance, and more.

These are noble, eternal causes.

What is TradFi fighting for?

What’s the TradFi agenda?

Make more money. Take your data and repurpose/resell it.

Is that an agenda really worth dedicating your life towards?

No.

Two weeks ago, I was with my team at RDX Works, the company with an agenda to build a smart contract platform experience capable of truly making DeFi a mainstream reality.

We went around the room and I asked people what their motivation was for being part of this group.

I wish you could have been there. The stories, the passion, the reasons to care.

We have one person from Lebanon who spoke of the extreme financial hardship imposed by the government and banks on the citizens of the country.

We have another person from Vietnam whose family property was expropriated during communist times.

And we have people from the West who believe that governments and central banks have overstepped their mandate, infringing upon the rights of individuals and freedoms.

I will take this group of people any day over a bunch of bonus-focused bankers.

Crypto is going to win.

So, whatever direction the crypto system pursues it will need a bullet proof accounting system operating at multiple levels that can be audited and tracked. Defi is not new. The Italian Medicis operated one in the 1500's before banks to manage ever increasing levels of trade. The critical enabler was the accounting system backbone.
