Relationships: Stay on the beam!

Human existence thrives on relationships and every interaction is governed by exchange of information; nothing is done in a silo. Even conversations you have with yourself involve two!

Having established that, every individual owns the relationship. Be it with your parents, grandparents, pets, friends, peers, your domestic help, security guards, lift operator, housekeeping staff, pantry staff, cab driver, auto-rickshaw driver, grocery vendor, customers, clients and every employee in your organization (to name a few), you own the interaction and the relationship. Additionally, because humans come with a plethora of feelings and emotions, human interaction is like a rainbow; or rather, all shades & variants of ROYGBIV or VIBGYOR (whichever way you learnt it), adding black & white. Therefore, applying the multiplicity effect of X number of relationships and Y number of feelings on a day to day basis, balance is bound to go off at times! Disappointments, ego based reactions, arguments, back-stabbing, etc. After all, life is like being on a balance beam: do all your stunts, but stay on the beam! And when you’re done with your act, make sure you land steady and poised!

What happens if you go off the beam? Do you stay down or jump back on to it and try again? Apply that to relationships. If a relationship has gone sour or broken, do you own it enough to repair it? If you misread a situation and walked the wrong path in ego based energy, do you have it in you to go back and try to undo the damage? We train people to say ‘sorry’ and highlight its importance in customer interactions. But do we apply it in our lives? May be sometimes the personal impact was of such magnitude that you don’t wish to make amends but bury it with time; that is fine too. Many a times, you might stay off the beam, sit cross-legged on the mat and visually replay your stunt, till you decide to give it another try because you feel it's time & you may succeed! Also, because it's important to you! And when you do, you may not be perfect, but you are at least content that you tried again. And guess what? So is the beam!

Is there a beam that you may have fallen off and want to own it by giving it another shot? Do it; the beam is waiting! And if you think it's too late, it's never too late.
