Relationships matter and make a difference in the lives of our business and personal life. It is so much easier to accomplish a goal when you have a team rather than going at it alone. How do we ensure that we have the right people on our team and build successful relationships? I have had the opportunity to learn this lesson with many hardships so I have learned what things to avoid. I have transformed a lot of my problems in this area because I have learned to examine the most important relationship first and that is the one that I have with myself. I now appreciate my journey of depression and hospitalizations because it showed me what patterns I had that were not serving me. I was people pleasing, hiding behind masks of being someone that I believed others wanted me to be, no boundaries or self care. I was constantly seeking validation from others and seeking every opportunity to prove my worth by helping others. I was so much in the cycle that I was not able to recognize who I was in the mirror. I am now happy to know who I am in the mirror but it came with a price. Now that I am clear on who I am and what my skills and talents are, I am able to engage with others and not be intimidated by their success or expertise. This is a perfect recipe for collaborating rather competing with others.
The biggest lesson that I have learned from my journey of people pleasing is to fully accept my strengths and my weaknesses. As a result, I am happy to collaborate on projects and events while providing what I am great at and leaving room for others to come on board in areas that are my weakness. This has been a game changer because I can quickly admit what I do not know which is a huge transformation from the desire to be all things to others and feel like I need to know it all. I read recently that delegation is simply sharing the spotlight with others. That ability to share the spotlight is catalyst for 3 benefits of relationship marketing that I would like to address. These benefits are masterminds, business partnerships and referrals.
Mastermind conversations are so beneficial to scale your business. Some of us refer to them as fireside chats but I would simply say any opportunity to get with a group of people who desire to improve in their personal and professional life is valuable. I enjoy taking time to strategize and ask questions to address current needs and concerns on a regular basis. Other eyes can help you avoid what is not serving you and take steps in a direction that does serve you. I have learned so much from David Meltzer from our interview, shared stages on Clubhouse and a fireside chat that he participated in for my tribe. If I could summarize what what he taught me I would say: have boundaries around your calendar and be a master of it. He accomplishes so much and largely due to being a master of his calendar. I have learned so much about valuing relationships and believe that it has been a catalyst for where I am today. During the pandemic I jumped into podcasting and have enjoyed every step of that journey. In addition, I collaborated with several groups and held masterclasses on how to juggle working from home and virtual school because at one point I had 7 children homeschooling during the pandemic. I did not have time to fall into the trap of the excuses, I just leaped into pouring into others and those relationships have grown into many business opportunities: sponsorships, book projects, courses, club memberships, tv producing and income streams. I simply discussed what my passion is and connections who value those topics have connected with me. Education is vital to me and I believe we need to equip all people so they can live a better more fulfilled life.
Referrals! Referrals! Referrals! This is golden to add to your business profitability. I would compare it to having a sales force going out and promoting your products or services. Referrals have greater valuable because they come with a testimonial from the person who gave the referral. Many companies have a referral program or affiliate program which works the same way. Expressing gratitude for referrals is so important in order to continue keeping the pipeline filled. Business building is a marathon and not a sprint and long term relationships help to aid in your long term success. I am a part of team referral network that keeps me engaged with my connections and conscious of connecting and referring out business.
