Relationship Concerns….
The course of true love is rarely straight, smooth or predictable. Would you agree? Human beings are notoriously fickle and prone to unexpected behaviours. When two people try to meld their lives into a functioning, healthy partnership, the pathway is frequently obstructed with rocky patches, stormy weather and difficult decisions. It’s amazing that we’re able to make our close relationships last for as long as they do. But before we allow cynicism to cloud our options, it might be helpful to remember that we all have access to techniques that can give our relationships a much greater chance of succeeding. Shall we take a closer look?
If life is deeply influenced by the conversations we share with others, then our ability to communicate effectively will always play a pivotal role in shaping the quality of our relationships. Yet, perhaps unexpectedly, the key to being a good communicator does not reside in how well you speak. The secret to great communication is in how well you listen
When we live with someone, we easily fall into the trap of believing that we already know what they mean and how they feel. We lapse into an emotional shorthand that saves us the time and energy of listening. This might not be the best way to enhance the quality of our communication because, when we no longer feel that someone is listening to us, fractures can surface in the fabric of the relationship. We miss the opportunities to discover how our partners are really feeling, to hear what they’re really thinking, to show our willingness to understand them as human beings. We don’t need to offer advice or tell them how to fix their problems. We just need them to know that we understand them and that we truly care about them. It might sound incredibly simple and require very little effort, but it’s one of the most effective ways to strengthen our bonds and encourage a loving, caring and supportive relationship with our loved ones. Try it today and notice the difference it makes to the lives of those around you.
